Double the Action Awaits the Fans in Bucharest
22nd August 2008
Round 6 of the FIA GT Championship sees the Scuderia Ecosse team tackle the
mean streets of the Romanian capital, Bucharest, this weekend. The 2008 Bucharest
City Challenge promises some added excitement, with a new race format on trial
for this heat of the Championship.
In a change to the Championship’s traditional two-hour race format, in
Bucharest Saturday’s one-hour qualifying race will decide the grid positions
ahead of Sunday’s race event; which will on this occasion also last for
just one-hour. Points will only be awarded for Sunday’s race and this
will allow the teams to maximise their performance on the track by racing for
shorter periods, whilst providing the Romanian race fans with double the action
over the weekend.
Having had a chance to recover from the demands of the 24-hour endurance race
at Spa, the team’s drivers Jamie Davies and Fabio Babini will be keen
to make the most of the maximum weight penalty which championship leaders AF
Corse will be carrying around this tight and challenging circuit. Before heading
out to Bucharest Team Principal Stewart Roden made it clear that he is hoping
to better the 3rd place podium finish achieved by the team at the same event
in last year’s Championship.
The high-octane GT race cars will add a spectacular touch of glamour and excitement
to the stunning backdrop of Bucharest’s Peoples Palace, and the crowds
are guaranteed some stunning wheel-to-wheel action over the 2-day event.
Keep right up to date with the team’s progress this weekend with the
extensive TV coverage now available throughout the 2008 season. The TV schedule
