Season Finale in Zolder

The last race of the season was held on the 20th / 21st October 2007 in Zolder
(Belgian). The last time that the FIA GT Championship was in Zolder was 2001.
The comeback to Zolder was anticipated by huge tension who will win the FIA
GT Championship 2007. The weather conditions were dry and sunny but very cold.
For Jamie Davies and his team mate Fabio Babini the last race wasn’t
a very good end of season result. Fabio did the qualifying and placed the car
in P11 on the grid. Fabio also drove the start of the race and handed the car
to Jamie in lap 18. After just one lap Jamie had big problems with the gear
box.
The gear box broke completely on his 3rd lap and he had no chance after Pier
Guidi in the no 12 Maserati hit Jamie’s right rear side of the car with
his front right into a right hand corner!. Both cars got back to the pits to
retire the Aston with severe rear end damage and the Maserati with broken suspension.
This was the finish for Jamie’s season in the FIA GT in 2007.
The race finished with the victory of Wendlinger / Sharp in the Jetalliance
Aston Martin DBR9 ahead of the PK Sport Corvette and the Vitaphone Maserati
no 1. The title for the driver’s championship in the GT1 went to Thomas
Biagi.
Jamie: “I want to thank all my fans who supported me during this season
and I want to thank Pirelli. It is a shame that the season didn’t go
as well as I had hoped but I will look forward to a better and more successful
season in 2008. I am racing to win and hope to get more podiums in 2008!”
