Disappointment in Brno

24th September 2007

The 8th round of the FIA GT Championship 2007 was held on the 22nd / 23rd September in Brno (Czech Republic). After finishing 3rd in the race before in Adria the balance of the car in Brno was not perfect because of the weight penalty for the 3rd place and it made it difficult to find a good set up for the car. In the qualifying nothing went well and they qualified 9th after suffering gearbox selection problems and only completing a couple laps.

Jamie drove the first stint in the race. The Aston Martin No 22, Jamie’s team mate was due for their first pit stop but Jamie had to come to the box as well. He felt problems with the fuel amount as the car had slowed several times under full power and was worried not to get back after doing two more laps like it was planned. So he radioed to the team but the radios didn’t work clearly. He went into the pits anyway but the sister car followed him inn which caused confusion within the team. The confusion caused trouble in the pitstop and his stop was extremely long. Fabio took over and went back in the race in 11th position. Fabio couldn’t gain any places in his stint and also when Jamie was back in the car the difference to the cars ahead was too big. They finished the race in 11th position. The race winners were Montanari and Ramos in the no 2 Vitaphone Maserati MC12 ahead of no 33 Jetalliance Aston Martin and the No 4 Carsport Corvette.

Jamie: “I am disappointed. After having a good run in Adria we thought we found some problems which we had during the season to make it work better but this time it was all against us again. We are still looking forward to the next race and hope that in France in two weeks it will be better again. Fingers crossed please!“
