Swimming in Bucharest
20th May 2007
The 3rd round of the FIA GT Championship was held on the 20th of May in Romania.
The whole weekend was dominated by difficult weather conditions – rain,
rain and more rain.
The No 23 Aston Martin of BMS Scuderia Italia was hoping to be a bit luckier
on the street circuit than the race before in Silverstone but after a difficult
qualifying (11th) Jamie and Fabio knew that it will be a very hard race. To
overtake on a street circuit is not easy at all but when you start from the
11th place it's very difficult.
Jamie:” The qualifying time was disappointing, we went out too early
and the cars that went out later in the qualifying had more grip because the
circuit conditions were improving. The circuit in the first part of the race
was so wet and slippery that it felt like being on an ice rink. It rained so
hard that the conditions were so difficult especially when you have a lot of
cars in front spraying more water on your windscreen. My last stint was not
too bad because the grip was getting better and it had stopped raining. I was
one of the quickest cars on the circuit in this stint.”
Jamie and Fabio finished the race again in 7th place and cought a couple of
points for the championship but they are hungry to get podium positions and
win races.
Jamie: “The next FIA GT race will be a home race for Fabio in Italy
(Monza) and we will try even harder to show the potential of our No 23 Aston.
I am really looking forward to go to Monza. The test at the beginning of this
season was good and my last result in Monza was winning the first round of
the LMES in 2004 with Audi. I like the circuit a lot and I hope we will have
a better result than the last two races. But before we go to Italy we have
a test in Le Mans (3rd June) for the 24h race and the 24h race itself is on
the 16th / 17th June.
I love Le Mans and have many fond memories of this circuit and I can´t
wait to get into the car again.”
