Unlucky Home Race at Silverstone
6th May 2007
On the 6th of May the 2nd round of the FIA GT Championship took place at Silverstone.
It was the only home race for Jamie Davies but not filled with luck and happiness.
Jamie was really looking forward to his only race in England this season inviting
friends and family to show the potential of the Aston at its home circuit.
With Nigel Mansell driving a Ferrari in the GT2 class many more spectators
found their way to Silverstone than last year. Before the race weekend started
the FIA GT held a press conference with all the English drivers to welcome
Nigel Mansell to the FIA GT.
It was a typical Silverstone weekend – cold, windy but surprisingly
no rain!!! The sky was dark and compared to the weeks before it was really
cold with 9°C.
The busy Saturday finished after two Free Practice Sessions taking P4 after
Qualifying.
Jamie:” It was a very difficult weekend. The Qualifying was quiet good,
we were the first Pirelli car on the grid and to start a race from the 2nd
row is not too bad. During the race we were struggling with the set-up and
also luck wasn’t on our side. In the middle of my first stint one of
the Corvettes lost its bonnet. There was carbon debris all over the place and
the result was a puncture. At least we still got two points for P7 and let’s
hope for more fortune in Romania. I love street circuits but I don’t
know if the Aston will be easy to drive in tight corners but I will try my
best to make it fast. The competition on the street circuit in my opinion will
be the Maserati.”
