Great Victory for the Vitaphone Racing Team
15th October 2006
For the last race in Europe in 2006 the FIA GT comes back to Italy. The Adria
Raceway will be the scene of the 9th FIA GT race on the 15th of October.
The race at the Adria Raceway finished with a great result for the Vitaphone
Racing Team. Jamie Davies and his team mate Thomas Biagi won their second FIA
GT race this season. The Maserati MC12 with the start no.2 didn’t have
the very best starting position after qualifying; only P7 but both drivers
gave their best to take the lead. Jamie drove in his stint right up to P2.
After the leading Zakspeed Saleen had a problem with the brakes Jamie Davies
and Thomas Biagi were successful claiming the victory. The sister car no.1
with Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels finished second in front of the GLPK
Carsport Corvette C 6.
Jamie Davies: “It’s a great result for us, for the team, for Maserati
and obviously for Pirelli as well, as I think without them today we would have
struggled. The tyres were so good throughout the stint and we were able to
push all the time. This has given us the result today. It has been a good,
trouble-free run; we kept it clean and consistent. The potential has always
been there, but a number of small hiccups meant we have had problems in qualifying.
We’ve been able to show the true potential in the race.”
The second place for car no.1 meant also the win of the driver’s championship
for Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels in the FIA GT Championship 2006. That
means that the Vitaphone Racing Team has already won the team championship
and the drivers championship before the season finishes in Dubai on the 18th
of November 2006.
