Brno Race Report

28th May 2006

The 2nd race of the FIA GT Championship was held in Brno (Czech Republic) on the 28th of May.

Jamie drove very well in the qualifying session and set the 2nd fastest time after the Zakspeed Saleen, which would be the first front row start for the #2 Vitaphone Maserati MC 12 for the race on Sunday.

Jamie:" After the first free practice session we were not quite happy with the balance of the car, but with Maserati and the team, we worked very hard to change the situation. We also have to thank Pirelli who made the right tyre choice for the qualifying and also for the race. After problems in free practice yesterday, we have obviously moved forward with the chassis and I'm very happy now with the balance of the car."

Thomas Biagi started the race. He had some problems during the start and his first stint and lost positions to place 14 with a huge gap to the leader. After the driver change Jamie Davies drove one fast lap after the other and got the car back to 8th position. Thomas Biagi was back in the car after another driver change and he tried to close the gap a bit more. He reached 6th position but he also got a time penalty of 30 sec for unfair overtaking of the Mike Hezeman Corvette - this took the car back to 7th position. Thomas also picked up another penalty for unfair overtaking of the Christoph Bouchut Lamborghini - this means car #2 has to go back 10 places on the grid at the next race in Oschersleben.

The team mates of Jamie Davies and Thomas Biagi in the Vitaphone Maserati #1 driven by Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini finished 4th.

Jamie: "Of course I am not happy with the result of the race but we still have a competitive car and that gives us courage for the coming races."
