Silverstone Race Report
7th May 2006
The beginning of the FIA GT Championship 2006 started on the 7th of May at Silverstone.
Jamie and his team mate Thomas Biagi are looking forward to a very interesting season with the Vitaphone Racing Team.
Jamie: "I am glad to drive a highly competitive car in the FIA GT Championship this season. Many thanks to Pirelli and Maserati for giving me the chance to drive this car in 2006."
The right choice of the Pirelli tyres made it possible to have a good start in the race. Jamie had a good start from the 7th position but spun in the first lap and lost a few places. He drove one fast lap after the other and clawed back to 3rd position before he came in for the first pit-stop. During the pit-stop one of the mechanics made a mistake and sprayed WD40 instead of windscreen cleaner on the screen of car #2 which made it very difficult for Jamie to see anything on the track, he dropped back to 5th place. After having more problems during the second pit-stop when Thomas Biagi got in the car there was no improvement possible. Jamie finished with his team mate in 5th place but the team was still able to cheer for the other car which finished in 1st position and won the Tourist Trophy. The 5th place of Jamie and Thomas secured important points for the team in the beginning of an exciting Championship.
Jamie: "Unfortunately we were unlucky in both pit-stops but in my opinion the race has shown that the package with Maserati, Pirelli and the Vitaphone Racing Team is strong. I am looking forward to the next race."
